Good genes

My passion for cooking began eye-level to the counter top watching Grandma Jeffery work her magic with the roast. When she was a child her father, my great grandfather, owned a small town restaurant often giving meals to the less fortunate during the depression. She took special care with the gravy, speaking of the importance of extra suet and how to temper the flour before adding. Under her tutelage I won the family title “Gravy Girl”, a moniker coined by my parents.  A love of art came from my Dad, the passion for cooking and some well-seasoned cast iron skillets from my Mom. I followed the creative business path, which led me to Graphic Design and eventually to Brick Design, a firm I started with my husband Brian. But I have always had a yearning to own a restaurant or find some way to combine business with my particular pleasure. So every day I am head chef of my own home restaurant with regular patrons Brian and my three boys; James, Robbie and Gus occupying the chefs table nightly. Cooking plays an important role in our family gatherings, my mom, sisters and brother in law can think of nothing more entertaining than experimenting with food and learning from each others successes and failures. The act of cooking itself is the entertainment and of course the eating, that’s great too.
